Alumni Spotlight – Julio Guillermo Arostegui

We moved to New Jersey when I was 4 and I started my Montessori Journey with Ms. Sullivan and Mrs. Sherrer. I remember how they showed me the Pink Tower and the Brown Stairs; but the one activity I enjoyed the most was ‘show and tell’..

My friends and I always wanted to learn more, that’s why Mrs. Fink and Ms. Dixon gave us a special time: “Research Fridays” where we could ask any question we had and they would help us search the answer on the internet.

I remember how proud I felt to be the oldest kid in the whole school, for a year, but being in Kindergarten with Mrs. Christensen and Mrs. T. made me feel special: I was a role model, everyone was looking at me. It was fun to be with my friends on stage, in front of so many people, for our play “Marsupial Sue” and our Kindergarten Graduation.

Now, I am 10 years old and I am one of six LEGOLAND NY Kid Reporters!

At the beginning of this year, LEGOLAND NY searched for children ages 6 to 12 who lived no more than 100 miles from Goshen, NY, where the new LEGOLAND will open. I had to submit a one minute video explaining why I like LEGO and why I wanted to be a LEGOLAND NY Kid Reporter. After a few weeks, my dad received an email saying that, out of the 450 videos they received, they chose mine. I was surprised and happy.

Last spring, we received training and visited the park site in Goshen, NY. It’s going to be the biggest LEGOLAND ever made! The other kid reporters and I are in charge of giving updates on the park’s progress and share interesting facts about LEGO and LEGO bricks. You can follow me on Instagram @memoloveslego.

During all this process, I remembered what I learned at Westmont: “We all make mistakes and it is OK. We just keep trying.”

The park opens on July 4th 2020, I hope to see you there! Read more...
