Welcome to The Westmont Montessori School website. We are proud to be the second oldest Montessori school in New Jersey. Our school has grown from a tiny seed in a rented church basement to a beautiful, full-grown campus in the heart of Morris County in North West New Jersey.
Founded in 1964 by parents dedicated to a progressive educational system, the school continues to experience growth and success more than half a century later. When I entered the school for the first time over 30 years ago I felt its unique draw. I knew it was a place in which I wanted to pursue my career, a place that expected me to live my profession, share my passion for the children in my care, and impart the philosophy of education I embraced. As an administrator, today it is equally important that I maintain the feeling in the school that I experienced as a young teacher. Everyone who walks through our doors deserves to encounter the warm and welcoming community that is Westmont.
Westmont was special then and remains just as special today. Why is this? Enter our school and you will quickly experience what those of us here feel every day, a unique learning environment, alive with an atmosphere that embraces and nurtures our students. We have enhanced our building and our programs over the years and have never lost sight of our mission, which is dedicated to the education of young children.
A school is as strong as its faculty and staff, Westmont’s faculty boasts a collective 100 plus years working at the school, adding to the school’s ongoing success. Many of our lead teachers are Montessori parents whose children attended or attend our school. Among our parent population are alumni, proud to give their children the great start they themselves received at Westmont. Former students return annually to participate in our Alumni Junior Camp Counselor Program giving back to the school that gave to them.
Our school is a community of parents, students, faculty, staff and board members dedicated to a common goal, that of providing lifelong learning and skills which will support our students in the ever changing world in which we now live.
Please come for a visit, and see what I mean. Find and experience an environment that is uniquely prepared to offer choice and hands-on learning to our students, an environment vibrant with happy, engaged students who are leaders and peers, individuals and team players, curious and focused. Find a school that is passionate and dedicated to children and community.
